All events are subject to change.

JANUARY

  • New Year's Day -- Bethel Island Frozen Bun Run, starting on New Year's morning at the Rusty Porthole , Boyd's Harbor, Bethel Island. A water ski run sponsored by the local Chamber. They provide the tow boats, and even water skis if you need them. Signup starts at 8:30 a.m. and fee is $10 to ski, costumes encouraged. Participants get a Bun Run jacket patch and a chance to win awards in several categories. Rusty Porthole features a breakfast buffet and gets the BBQ going by 11 a.m. It is fun to watch, 925/684-3220

FEBRUARY

  • Tracy Bass Amateurs Only Team Tournaments, by Tracy Oasis Marina , Feb 12 & 27.  $10 entry, $25 membership, 100 percent payback. 209/835-3182.

  • Sacramento Boat Show, at Cal Expo, big exhibition of trailerable boats and equipment, more than 400 boats, fishing seminars and tackle, Noon - 9 p.m. Wed. - Fri., 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sat., 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sun., adm $9 adults, under 12 years free, 800/818-9994.

APRIL

  • Stockton Yacht Club Opening Day Parade, is open to all boaters. Decoration theme "Delta Daze Siesta Fiesta."  Parade assembles and departs  from Light 39 on the Stockton Deepwater Channel and runs to the Stockton waterfront to turn around in McLeod Lake, info 209/946-9259.
  • Antioch Opening Day Parade, by the various yacht clubs of the area, all boaters welcome, starts at the bridge Near Buoy 14 at 12:30 p.m., and cruises to Pittsburg and disbands near the Power Plant. Pittsburg YC hosts at end of the parade, decoration theme "Follow your Rainbow." 925/757-1800.
  • Bethel Island Opening Day Parade, by the San Joaquin Yacht Club, all boaters welcome. Parade starts at noon at the clubhouse and proceeds clockwise around the island. Awards in various classes. Decoration theme is "Disney On The Water." This year includes Catfish Racing in the area behind the clubhouse, beginning at noon., Elmer Carranjo, 925/684-9985.
  • Opening Day On The Strait, by Benicia YC,  activities start 10 a.m. with arts & crafts booths on the Marina Green, decoration theme "Beach Blanket Benicia," 11 a.m. blessing of fleet, noon opening ceremony with band, boats travel east past review ship off 1st Street, noon - 5 p.m. food, music, children's activities, awards presentation 4 p.m., club is open to the public, 707/746-6600.
  • Bethel Island Chili Cookoff, at Bethel Island's Scout Hall, an ICS-sanctioned event for the World Championships.. Everyone is invited to attend as "judges" for the People's Choice chili and salsa entries. There also will be Hoot 'N Holler contests, catfish racing, a raffle, silent auction, arts & crafts, food, liquid refreshments, sports memorabilia, crowning of a king, and so on. It's a lot of fun. Tastings begin at noon. 925/684-3220.
  • Pacific Powerboat Expo, at Jack London Square, is the premier in-water yacht show for Northern California.  Over 100 yachts to 75 feet and 200 trailer boats on land make this an event for all recreational boating enthusiasts. Additionally, after market products, fishing seminars, marine services and ‘specialty’ watercraft insure that current boaters will find plenty to do and see. Freeway access is easy as well as public transportation. Hours noon to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekend. Information: 1-800/698-5777.
  • Stockton Asparagus Festival, at the Stockton waterfront Weber Point Events Center and adjacent areas, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., plenty of asparagus dishes, live music, classic cars, arts & crafts, doodad booths and more. Adults $8, seniors $5, kids 13 - 17 years $5, kids 12 and under free, (discounts for groups of 20 or more), 800/350-1987. Visit the Delta Chambers display.
  • Suisun Opening Day Boat Parade, at Suisun City Marina,, BBQ at Solano YC,  707/429-2628.
  • Around Bethel Island Champagne Boat Cruise,  by the San Joaquin YC  to benefit Meals-On-Wheels, for the local community or anybody who wants a ride. They'll be taking folks around on about 10 boats, at least a three hour cruise. Price is a $40, ($50 at the door) per person donation to Meals-On-Wheels, includes champagne, snacks on the boats, and BBQ upon return to the clubhouse. Info Rick & Melodie Bower, 925/684-2086. 

MAY

  • Delta Loop Fest, activities will take place at all marinas on the Delta Loop (Andrus Island) varying from free feeds to wine tasting, live music, horseshoe tournament, bikini contest, kids activities, reduced prices on beverages, flea
    markets, white elephant sales, boat displays, fishing seminars, raffle with over $6,000 in prizes, and more, 916/777-6161.
  • Discovery Bay Opening Day Parade,  by the Discovery Bay YC. All boaters welcome, register in advance, decoration theme is to be selected.  Starts at 1 p.m. in Lighthouse Bay, Art McSherry, 634/513-3540.
  • Sacramento Yacht Club Opening Day Parade, is open to all boaters.  The parade starts at high noon just downstream of the clubhouse and proceeds upstream about to the American River and back, 916/371-5058. 
  • Champagne Classic Boat Show, at Oxbow Marina. Features 20 classic yachts in the water for your viewing pleasure, admission free, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sat., 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sun., hosted by the marina with yachts from the Classic Yacht Assn.  If you have a classic you would like to show, call  Bill 916-869-9141.
  • Discovery Bay Boat Show, staged by the Lions Club at Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor. A quality 3-day event with a modest admission ($5) fee (proceeds go to Lions Club charities). Features new boats, both ashore and in the water, food, entertainment some days. Marine accessories and other goods and services are represented at booths, set up in colorful tents, hours noon - 6 p.m. Fri., 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sat., and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sun., 925/634-5928
  • Meals-on-Wheels Benefit - A Day of Golf & Bowling and Dinner,  by the San Joaquin Yacht Club & Bethel Island Chamber at Bethel Island. All Community and Yacht Clubs are welcome to participate. If you can't golf or bowl, donations are welcome, and come for dinner only. For entry contact: Bowling, Sue Olsen, 408/255-7726, entry fee $45, includes shoes, gift bag, awards, dinner and more, check-in at 1:30 p.m.; Golf, Geri Marshall, 925/684-0285.   • Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, featuring over 100 jazz bands from all over the world, in the Old Sacramento waterfront area and its environs, as well as at Cal Expo, over the Memorial Day weekend. This 3-day event is kicked off with a parade in Old Sac. Ticket prices vary according to the time they cover and what they cover, 916/372-5277.

JUNE

  • Rusty Porthole Poker Run,  starts at 9 a.m. until whenever. Tickets will go on sale May 3. Ticket price is $50 per person and includes breakfast, dinner and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Call Belinda at 925/684-3607 or Mary Knight at 925/684-2499.
  • Annual Luau, at Point Waterfront Restaurant in Rio Vista, music, food, drinks, prizes, 707/374-5400.
  • Annual Al the Wop's Chili Cookoff,  in the roped-off streets of downtown Locke. A $25 fee for those cooking, includes their booth space, arrive early to get the best space, perhaps by 8 a.m., 1st to 3rd place prizes in Best Presentation and Best Chili categories. The rest of us pay a $5 fee for a spoon to use to sample the various chilies, served in small cups. You also get a glass of beer for that $5 fee. This activity starts about 11 a.m. and continues all day. Live music by Trial By Fire, 916/776-1800. 
  • Free Fishing Day,  you don't need a fishing license to fish anywhere in California on this day.
  • Isleton Crawdad Festival, this 3-day event over Father's Day weekend, attracts some 200,000 gourmets and gourmands to this sleepy Delta river community to sample crustacean delicacies, to kick up their heels to the music of maybe 18 bands, to peruse arts & crafts booths, and to just have fun. There will not be a parade. Admission is free, 916/777-5880.
  • Island Showcase Golf Tournament, by Bethel Island Alliance, 4-person scramble blind bogey scramble, tee prizes, demos, celebrities, Buick as hole-in-once prize, auctions, more; entry $95, includes green fee, car, tee prizes, lunch & dinner, 10:30 a.m. registration, putting contest, 10:45 bbq lunch, 12 noon shotgun start, dinner at 5 p.m., 925/684-9283.
  • Kids Fishing Derby, at Brannan Island State Park, free but there is a $2 park entry fee for each vehicle. For kids 15 years and under, registration starts at 9 a.m., first 200 to register receive an assortment of tackle, local fishing experts on hand to help, includes instant-winner casting contest, awards in a variety of age groups for largest fish and largest stringer of fish, fee hotdogs and sodas to derby participants, bait provided, staged by CSBA & Delta Natural History Assn., 916/777-6671.

JULY

  • Hilton Fireworks Extravaganza, staged by Hotel magnate Barron Hilton, headquartered at his duck club on Venice Island. This annual event features fireworks shot from a barge anchored off Mandeville Tip and attracts over 5,000 boats, who anchor out in the area, some of them for many days. This is the largest boat-in event in the Delta -- perhaps the largest in the west. 
  • Pittsburg Fireworks, fireworks usually are shot from either an offshore barge near the city waterfront, or from shoreside, 925/432-7301.
  • Antioch's 4th of July Celebration,  in downtown Antioch and at the Antioch Marina.  Hometown Parade, classic car show, entertainment with Fireworks Spectacular over the San Joaquin River,  info from Antioch Marina 925/779-6957.
  • Old Sacramento July 4th Celebration, a reintroduction of the parade, fireworks, and other fun things, admission free, 916/264-7031.
  • July 4th Celebration In Stockton, celebrate our nation's birthday on the waterfront, an exhilarating night that includes free admission, live bands, entertainment, and an incredible fireworks show!  Join Stockton for spectacular summer evening at Weber Point, 209/943-1987. 
  • July 4th Festival, at Suisun City Marina, biggest event of year, starts at 11 a.m., games, races, kiddie carnival, arts & crafts, live music, fireworks over the harbor, 707/429-2628,
  • Brentwood Cornfest, parade, crafts, food, music, wine-tasting and more. Hours 5 - 10 p.m. Fri., 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sat., 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sun.; Admission adults $5, seniors & students $2, kids under 8 years free,  925/634-3344,
  • Bethel Island 50's Bash Car & Motorcycle Show. Features a Car Show on Saturday, and on Sunday a Motorcycle Show is featured. Pre Registration $30.00 Same Day $35.00 both days. Vendor booths, Live music, Catfish Races. General Admission is Free, staged by the local chamber in the downtown area,  (925) 684-3220. 
  • Taste Of The Deltawine tasting and food by various area wineries and eateries, plus live music, grand silent & regular auctions that include many exciting items & services, by Delta Chambers, at Ryde Hotel, 1 pm - 4 pm, come by boat or car, admission $35, includes souvenir wine glass and plate. Order tickets 916-777-4041.
  • Luau, by Village West YC & Village West Marina, at the clubhouse, starts at 5:30 p.m., Polynesian dinner, live music, Polynesian dancers and flame throwers, tickets $25 by Jul. 12, then $30, limited to 300 persons, 209/951-7731.
  • Courtland Pear Fair. The pear is king at this fun event in the pear capital of the universe, the river town of Courtland, features food and drinks that focus on the pear, pear contests, a parade, and more. The last Sunday in July, 916/775-2000.

AUGUST

  • PWC Poker Run, by Sunset Bar & Grill at Tower Park, entry $40, signup & breakfast at 9 a.m., ends with dinner & prizes back at Sunset, 209/712-6930..
  • Brannan Island Kite Festival, at Brannan Island State Park, 916/777-6671.
  • Party On The Point, at Orwood Resort, lobster and steak and all the trimmings, order tickets in advance, reservations required, price to be announced, tickets go on sale Aug. 1, and sell out fast, 925/634-6812.
  • Reggae On The Delta, at the Breadfruit Tree Restaurant at Paradise Point Marina, 3 p.m. - 10 p.m., admission $17,  Pan Extacy harmonics steel band, a taste if the Caribbean,  prizes for  "Limbo Champ" and more, 209/952-7361.

SEPTEMBER                                                     

  • Lost Isle Labor Day Weekend, World Famous Mai Tai Party, 209/948-4135.
  • Rodeo On The River, Western championship rodeo in Isleton, bull riding, bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, bareback riding & other good stuff. Event now includes Junior Pro Rodeo finals on Friday at 3 p.m. Rodeo starts at 3 p.m. Sat. & Sun. Adm. $10, advance tickets $8, kids under 5 free. Activities include bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, bareback riding and a Sunday parade,  916/777-5880.
  • Pittsburg Seafood Festival, by the Pittsburg Chamber on the commodious grounds of Pittsburg Marina. Folks seem to like events that involve food, and they don't get much better than this two-day extravaganza. Some 40 vendors offer a variety of seafood, as well as a few items that never swam in the sea. Food dishes are modest in both price and size, with the idea that you sample the food from a variety of vendors. This is a family-oriented event with a modest admission price. The festival includes entertainment, including a few live bands, and a dazzling program of offshore boat racing, starting at noon Sunday.  925/432-7301.
  • Annual Delta Blues Festival, noon to 7 p.m. in downtown Antioch on the waterfront between I and G, admission free, arrive by boat into Antioch Marina,  925/757-6440.
  • Pot 'O Gold Reverse Raffle, they have gold fever at Bethel Island. Tickets are $100 each, maximum of 200 sold. Ticket price includes a steak dinner. Top prize for the last ticket pulled in the raffle is $10,000. There are numerous other prizes too. The event takes place at Scout Hall, starting at 5 p.m., 925/684-3220.
  • Northern California Fall Boat Show, by the NCMA at Jack London Square, Oakland, with some 100 yachts to 80 ft. power and sail in the water and 200 trailerboats ashore, and over 100 booths of boating accessories and equipment, free boat rides, kids activities, fishing,  adults $9, kids $5 (under 6 free) discount tickets at dealers, noon - 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sat. & Sun. 800/698-5777.
  • Grape Festival and Harvest Fair, a Lodi event dating back to 1907 at Lodi Grape Festival Grounds, $6 adults, $3 for youths 6 to 12 years, food, entertainment, morning parade on Sept. 16, wine making exhibits, 209/369-2771.
  • Oakley Almond Festival, adm. free, at O'Hara Park, food, music, dancing, booths, arts, crafts, car show, wine tasting,  Diaper Derby, recipe contest, 5K Run, Sat. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sun. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., parade in Sat. a.m., over 1,000 lbs. of almonds,  925/625-9710.
  • Delta Loop Golf Tournament, bang the ball with the Loop folks, 916/777-6161.
  • B & W Steamboat Meet, at B & W Resort. An amateur steamboat club brings around three-dozen steamboats to the resort for a weekend of huffing and puffing around, a good excuse to exercise their steam whistles. It usually includes a parade and picnic luncheon outing to Tower Park or Westgate Landing, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Admission free, 916/777-6161.
  • Free Fishing Day,  you don't need a fishing license to fish anywhere in California on this day.
  • Rivertown Jamboree, in downtown Antioch, live music, food, arts and crafts booths, carnival in  Downtown Antioch, boat into Antioch Marina.   • Jack Baumann Memorial Golf Tournament, by Point Waterfront Restaurant in Rio Vista. Entry $100, includes cart, green fees, continental breakfast, sandwiches, buffet dinner w/wine, prizes, raffle ticket and more.   • Kids Free Fishing Derby,  by CSBA at Contra Loma Regional Park, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., both girls and boys ages 3 -12. Free bait and free lunch for kids, trophies and prizes, rods and reels available for use with current I.D., Mike Hall, 925/634-6356.
  • Make-A-Wish Cruise, by Driftwood Yacht Club, to raise substantial funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. BBQ, hors d'oeuvres, music, ride on a yacht, $40, check in at 8 a.m., 925/757-5800.
  • Lodi Street Faire, downtown streets are blocked off, and filled with vendors selling antiques and other wares, food, entertainment, admission free, 209/365-1195.
  • Rio Vista Bass Festival,  staged by the Rio Vista Chamber, this derby is over a half-century old and is touted as the first bass derby in California. It includes a wonderful parade down Main St. starting aout 12:30 p.m. on Sunday; a carnival, food booths, car shows, entertainment, live music from several bands, a spectacular fireworks display over the water on Saturday night, and other activities. There is a $25 fee to fish in the derby and there are many prizes, including the first prize of an 18-ft. Klamath OS fishing package with 50 hp 4- stroke Mercury Outboard, and E-Z Loader trailer. There is a Kid's Derby, entry $5. Fishing tickets must be purchased in advance of fishing, 707/374-2700.
  • Lodi Salmon Festival & Indian PowWow, crafts, exhibits, salmon barbecue, fishing derby, story telling, river tours, dam/fish ladder tours, 209/748-2845.
  • Halloween Parties: Many Delta establishments hold Halloween Parties on the last Saturday in October (Sunset Grill @ Tower Park, Windmill Cove, Rusty Porthole, Moore's Riverboat, Hotel Del Rio, Suisun Marina, etc.).  Please check our activities schedule for more specific information.

NOVEMBER

  • Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival, tours to viewing sites, art show, vendors, childrens activities, admission  adults - $12, seniors - $10, youth - $5, children under 12 free, 209/367-7800.

  • Bethel Island Fishing Seminars,  presented by CSBA  at Scout Hall as a warmup for the Thanksgiving Fishing Derby. Many expert fishing guides and others share their secrets, admission free 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., 925/684-3224.
  • Bethel Island Thanksgiving Week Fishing Derby, by the Bethel Island Chamber, runs a full week over the Thanksgiving week.  Derby tickets are $15  (includes free hat for first 350 tickets sold) and there are numerous merchandise awards, and a big first place prize of $1,000, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $250 -- there is also a mystery prize for a striper, that is closest to a weight selected in advance.  Buy tickets at Delta Sportsman, Lundborg Landing, Keller's Mini-Mart, Anchor Marina & Chamber office. There is an awards dinner at 5 p.m.  directly after final weigh-in Nov. 29 in Scout Hall, $10. Other activities include a queen contest and raffles, 925/684-3220.
  • Brentwood Holiday Parade, a gala annual event downtown in this comfortable Delta town, starts at 2 p.m., 925/634-3344,

DECEMBER

  • Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, by the Marina West Yacht Club, the first Saturday in December. Open to all boaters. $20 per boat entry fee, donated to the Women's Center of San Joaquin County.  Boats gather on the Stockton Deepwater Channel in front of Windmill Cove at dusk (5 p.m.), then parade to the head of the Stockton Channel and back.  Dazzling. Register in advance or 10 a.m. - noon at clubhouse, info Lynn Hahn 209/477-7653.

  • Rio Vista Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, usually the first Saturday in December and staged by Delta Marina, the yacht club, and the Rio Vista Chamber. The parade forms at the marina, then runs up the river to the Rio Vista Bridge and back. Open to all boaters, 707/374-2315.
  • Arts, Crafts & Antiques Street Fair, at Suisun City waterfront waterfront area, first Sat. of the month, May through December, music, kids activities, 9 a.m. -4 p.m., admission free.  707/429-2628.
  • Christmas In Old Town, at Suisun City Marina, includes caroling, carriage rides, festive bonfire, pictures with Santa, and lighted boat Parade, 707/429-2628,
  • Discovery Bay Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, staged by the Discovery Bay YC, boats wend through alternate bays, especially colorful with many homes decorated, and ends at the clubhouse next to the yacht harbor.  It begins at 5:30 p.m. in Lighthouse Bay. You need to register in advance, and there are prizes for best decorated boats. Contact Art McSherry at 925/513-3540.
  • Ox Bow Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, hosted by Ox Bow Marina, usually the second Saturday in December,   and is open to all boaters at no charge. Sign up in advance in the office, or by calling in for a reservation. The boats gather at dusk at the marina, then parade up Georgiana Slough and the Mokelumne River to the Hwy 12 and back, and then by all the homes at Oxbow 916/777-6060.
  • Bethel Island Parade of Lights, by the San Joaquin Yacht Club. Open to all boaters. It starts at dusk in front of the yacht club and runs clockwise around the island. Usually includes a contest for the best decorated and lighted homes as well, to make it especially colorful.   • Delta Loop Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, usually the third Saturday in December, starts at Korth's Pirates Lair Marina on Andrus Island's Delta Loop and runs to the Hwy 12 Bridge and back, open to all boaters, must register in the office at Korth's by 2 p.m. on parade day, 916/777-6464.
  • New Year's Eve Parties, most Delta resorts that have saloons and/or restaurants stage New Year's Eve Parties, usually with live music and party favors. There may be a fee at some, and at a few, reservations may be required. For folks with a boat or an RV, they can party hearty, then retire to their floating or wheeled home at the resort and not have to worry about taking to the highways. Several Delta restaurant/saloons maybe be seasonally closed, so inquire well in advance.
